How It Works
Microfiber as a raw material was first invented by Dr. Miyoshi Okamoto of Japan in the late 1970’s and the first commercial production of microfiber commenced in 1989.
Since that time microfiber has been enhanced a thousand fold and endless new applications are still being discovered. One of the most exciting uses to emerge for this new textile is within the cleaning industry. When high-quality microfiber is combined with the right knitting process, it creates an extremely effective cleaning material.

Here is why:
Microfiber is a thread with less than 1 denier (Denier is a measurement used to describe the size of a fiber). What that means essentially is that Microfiber is so fine (one hundred times finer than human hair) that nine thousand meters of Microfiber weighs only one gram!

Cleaning microfibers have a “pie wedges” cross section.
Splitting each fiber divides the fiber into 9 separate strands. Because each strand offers a wider available surface, the fibers water, oil or dust attraction is greatly increased. Microfiber can scoop up fatty substances much more efficiently than any other fiber.

In fact, microfiber can hold up to seven times it’s weight in water. The molecular composition of polyester and nylon make them highly lipophilic. That means that fatty substances stick extremely well to their surfaces. For the same reason Microfiber products also have exceptional ability to absorb oils. Because the microfiber surface is split into 9 separate wedges, these fatty substances will stay on the surface of the fibers until the cloth is laundered.

Microfiber textiles designed for cleaning are not just a cloth, but in fact a scientifically engineered precision tool that allows cleaning on a microscopic scale.

According to field tests done at the University of California-Davis hospital, using microfiber materials to clean a surface reduces the number of bacteria by 99% whereas a conventional cleaning material reduces this number by only 33%.
